James Collier

James Collier retired from corporate life in 2013 and returned to university to continue learning. He completed an honours degree in History at the University of Sydney in 2018. James' thesis was on the First Crusade. James is active in the bushwalking community: he is committee of Sydney Bushwalkers and is a member of SES Bush Search and Rescue.

James Colman

James Colman is a Sydney-based architect, planner, freelance writer and part-time university lecturer. From an initial intensive period of architectural practice in Australia and abroad he moved into urban design and town planning. Throughout his career he has maintained a deep commitment to the protection of built heritage and the natural environment. As a prize-winning freelancer he has written extensively for the professional and popular press and is well known for his recent book on Jack Mundey and the green bans. Currently in Sydney he maintains a small consulting practice, coupled with part-time university teaching.

Through her 30+ years of working in both the traditional and natural health sectors, and her experience presenting workshops in hospitals, schools, the corporate sector and the community, Rosanna offers a wealth of experience. She is passionate about empowering and inspiring individuals to take responsibility for their health, and live their best life possible.

Byron Comninos

Resume

Byron Comninos has many years of experience in course design and presentation. Greek by ethnicity, he has travelled to Greece more than eight times covering extensive areas of the country by foot, ferry, train, coach and car. When he can, he travels there yearly and has visited more than 30 islands where he has stayed at most and lived and studied at others. He brings to his WEA presentations fresh up-to-date information for the benefit of his course participants. His WEA courses reflect his own interests - Greek culture, history and travel. He loves history, archaeology, carving stone, photography, sketching, and cooking.

William John Coombs

Resume

John Coombs gained his BA (Hons) from the University of Wales in Welsh Language and Classical studies. He has since supplemented this with a BA in Classics from the University of New England. John has taught in primary schools and taught Latin at secondary schools. He has taught Latin, Classical Greek, Welsh and other subjects relating to History, Literature, Celtic Studies and Music with WEA and with Continuing Education at the University of Sydney. He has lectured in Welsh at the University of Sydney.

Sally Cooper

Sally has a bachelor’s degree in Textile Design and many years' experience working as a designer. Currently, she is a practicing artist, crafter and freelance designer and is studying for a Master of Art at UNSW and for the past eight years has been facilitating art and craft workshops and lessons to children. Sally is passionate about inspiring creativity in others!

Jan Cornall

Jan Cornall, MA.Cultural and Creative Practice, has taught writing at universities (UTS, UWS) community colleges (SCC, WEA) and writers centres for two decades. Jan loves to travel and has taken part in literary festivals and led writer’s retreats in the Asia Pacific. She has written for theatre and film and her novel, Take Me To Paradise (2006) and her collection of stories and songs, Archipelagogo (2013) are set in Indonesia. Her current project is a travel memoir set in Vietnam and Cambodia. Jan believes everyone has a unique writers voice and brings a lively and participatory approach to her teaching. A number of writers who have attended Jan’s classes at WEA have gone on to publish with major publishing houses.

David Crawford

David Crawford PhD, Grad.Dip Policy Studies, BA (Hons). A newcomer to WEA teaching, he facilitated Men's Wellbeing workshops and retreats for several years including in California. David is a professional public sector research writer of 30 years, including with the House of Representatives Federal Parliament, UWS Men's Health Research Centre, Department of Premier & Cabinet, and the National Parks & Wildlife Service. A published author with articles in Men's Health Journal (UK), Friends on the Shelf Magazine (London), Sydney's Child, and the Southern Highlands News. Two self-published books of professional writings were produced in Paris. He has recently finished an intriguing book of Oral History interviews with Volunteer guides at the Maritime Museum in Sydney, of their hidden lives and work tales at sea and in the services 1950s-90s. He enjoys facilitative learning with participants. David knows learning is a two-way process, and flavours this with a mix of humour and fascinating content about Simone de Beauvoir, the French existentialist writer.
