Dr Alan Krell is a retired Associate Professor of Art History and Theory at UNSW’s School of Art & Design, where he taught for over 30 years. He previously headed Art History at Nepean CAE (now Western Sydney University) and lectured in the UK before moving to Australia. Alan’s research and writing explore the intersections of art, culture, and imagination. His books include Manet and the Painters of Contemporary Life, The Devil’s Rope: A cultural history of barbed wire, Burning Issues: Fire in the Social Imagination., and The Mummy’s Foot and the Big Toe, published internationally by Thames & Hudson.
