Available Classes

Located about 1,000 km west of Ecuador, the Galápagos is a remote volcanic archipelago of 127 islands, islets, and rocks, home to one of the world’s largest marine reserves and numerous endemic species. Known as the ‘laboratory of evolution,’ it was here that Charles Darwin developed his theory, observing species’ adaptations and evolutionary relationships in one of the few places on Earth where such insights are possible.

DELIVERY MODE

  • Face-to-Face / Online

COURSE OUTLINE

  • General Introduction: Provide a brief overview of the archipelago’s formation, discovery, and human habitation. Explore fascinating facts about the islands.
  • Evolution Revolution: Explore Charles Darwin’s visit to the islands and the impressions he left after his first publication. Introduce the archipelago’s biodiversity, highlighting representative endemic species such as the finches, giant tortoises, marine iguanas, Galápagos penguins, and the three species of boobies.
  • Conservation and Threats: Explore key areas of the archipelago, including the Galápagos Province of Ecuador, the Galápagos National Park, and the Galápagos Marine Reserve. Learn about conservation initiatives protecting local species and examine the main environmental threats facing the islands.
  • Visiting the Islands: Explore the Galápagos and discover the must-see sites, opportunities to observe species in captive breeding programs, and the best sustainable experiences for visitors.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Gain a general understanding of the Galápagos Islands and why they are considered a “laboratory of evolution.”
  2. Identify the populated islands, learn where the most representative endemic species can be found, explore conservation programs, and understand the main current threats.
  3. Discover the top travel experiences and the most sustainable cruise expeditions.
