This qualification reflects the roles of entry-level vocational education and training (VET) teachers, trainers and assessors who are delivering training services to vocational learners and assessment services to candidates. The roles may be undertaken by those working in registered training organisations (RTOs), enterprises, community organisations, schools and other VET provision contexts. The volume of learning of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is typically six months to two years. This qualification meets the minimum education requirement for trainers and assessors operating without supervision under applicable VET legislation, frameworks and/or standards. The qualification is a successor to TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. To work in the industry you must be able to demonstrate currency in your field of expertise and hold a qualification preferably at least 1 AQF level higher than what you are teaching/assessing.

  • Payment for this course consists of an initial fee of $1500 to enrol into the core units. Upon completion of the core units, an additional payment of $1500 is required to enrol into your chosen elective units to complete this course.
  • This course must be completed within 3 months. Extensions (1 month - $50, 3 month - $150, 6 month - $350) can be purchased through the office upon request.
  • All students have 90 days to submit the required documentation on enrolment or WEA Sydney reserves the right to cancel their enrolment.
  • Access to our online learning platform will be issued once we have received and verified all your supporting documentation and USI number.

Course entry requirements:

Those entering this qualification must be able to demonstrate vocational competence in their proposed training and assessing area. Vocational competence is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification. Effective language, literacy and numeracy skills to plan, research and write a range of documentation and present information as well as access to a computer and internet is also required. Please notify us during the enrolment process of any additional learning needs to maximise your potential. Please ensure that you have read the WEA Sydney Student Handbook before enrolling.

Units of Competency

There are 6 core units plus 6 elective units, of which:

  • 3 units must be chosen from Group A first followed by,
  • 3 units from the remainder of Group A, or any units from Group B or C from the electives listed below

Please note that up to two units may be from any currently endorsed Certificate III or above training package qualification or accredited course, provided that no more than one unit is selected from a Certificate III.

Your chosen Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment, not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification, and contribute to a valid vocational outcome for entry-level VET teachers, trainers and assessors.

No, this is a competency-based course. You will need to show that you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received and will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all units of learning.
