Start your intermediate Russian learning journey with our Intermediate Russian: B1.1 Course, suitable for learners who have completed our Beginner Russian: A2 Conclusion course or have approximately 160 hours of prior study. This course helps you expand your ability to communicate more confidently in Russian while strengthening your understanding of key grammar and vocabulary needed for everyday conversation. It is ideal for learners interested in learning Russian for cultural interest or personal enrichment in a supportive and interactive learning environment.

You will practise communication in situations such as addressing people appropriately, introducing yourself in different contexts, and describing people and personal traits. Grammar is developed in context, including complex sentences, conjunctions, verb conjugation review, and key pronoun usage such as свой. Vocabulary is expanded across topics such as biography, personality, and social interaction, supporting more confident and culturally appropriate communication.

  • Using first names and patronymics
  • Addressing people using ты and вы
  • Using shortened and diminutive first name forms

Grammar

  • Case review: prepositional case (nouns, adjectives, pronouns)
  • Sentence structure: complex sentences
  • Conjunctions: потому́ что, та́к как; кото́рый (prepositional case)
  • Conjunctions: что, где, как, когда́; кото́рый (genitive case)
  • Pronouns: reflexive possessive свой
  • Verb forms: first and second conjugation (review)
  • Word order: basics of Russian word order
  • Word formation: roots and suffixes

Phonetics

  • Sounds: stressed and unstressed vowels /o/, /a/, /e/ (contrast and pronunciation practice)

Vocabulary

  • Biography, interests, personal appearance, and traits
  • Likes and dislikes; describing people
  • Social interaction: greetings, farewells, introductions
  • Asking for clarification

LEARNING OUTCOMES
