This course is for students who have sufficient knowledge of Latin to be ready to study Latin texts. In each lesson sentences for translation into Latin will be set as homework, which will be marked at the beginning of the next lesson. We will then spend time reading and discussing the texts. Each lesson we will also spend up to 15 minutes looking at some aspect of Roman history or culture, either from a document or a film. New students: Please be advised that you will need to contact WEA to ask which chapters will be studied in the upcoming term.

Please note that textbook cost is not included in the course fee. In the event of a course being cancelled WEA cannot be held responsible for the purchase of any textbooks. We therefore suggest you purchase your textbooks closer to the time of the course commencing.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Read and understand a Latin text of the appropriate level.
  2. Demonstrate the skills, vocabulary and attitudes required for further study of Latin.

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
