Continue developing your beginner French fluency and confidence with our Beginner French: A1.3 Course, suitable for learners who have completed our Beginner French: A1.2 Course or have approximately 40 hours of prior study. This course helps you build stronger communication skills for everyday situations while expanding your understanding of French grammar and vocabulary. It is ideal for learners interested in learning French for cultural interest or personal enrichment in a supportive and interactive learning environment.

You will practise everyday communication such as talking about family, describing people, discussing hobbies and personal passions, explaining your activities, and describing health-related situations. Grammar and vocabulary are taught in context to help you use possessive adjectives, -er verbs, expressions of taste, and descriptive adjectives with confidence. Phonetics is integrated throughout the course, with focused practice on French vowel sounds, nasal vowels, and pronunciation to help you develop clearer and more natural spoken French.

  • Speaking about the family

  • Speaking about the things we like
  • Speaking about ourselves (our profession, our passions, our dreams)
  • Speaking about our activities
  • Explaining a health problem

Phonetics

  • Recognising and differentiating [e] et [ɛ]
  • The nasal vowels [ɛ̃], [ɑ̃], [ɔ̃]
  • The sound [ɛ]
  • Asking questions

Grammar

  • Possessive adjectives: singular and plural
  • The masculine, the feminine and the plural of the qualificative adjectives
  • aimer, adorer, detester + noun/verb
  • The present tense of the verbs ending in -er (summary)
  • The verb faire + du/de la/de l’/des
  • The stressed pronouns
  • Avoir mal à + body parts

Vocabulary

  • The family
  • The physical and psychological description
  • Verbs and expressions to talk about your taste
  • The professions
  • The activities (sportive, artistic)
  • The body parts

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Take part in everyday conversations in French about family, personal interests, professions, and daily activities.
  2. Describe people, express likes and dislikes, and explain simple health situations using common grammatical structures.
  3. Communicate more clearly in spoken French by applying key pronunciation patterns and grammatical rules in familiar contexts.
