This "Building Digital Skills" course is a free, supportive course designed specifically for beginners aged 50 and over to build confidence using everyday digital technology. Funded by a grant from the Good Things Foundation, this program helps older Australians develop their essential digital skills in a welcoming and practical learning environment. Over four sessions, you will learn all about everyday technology, and develop skills to help you navigate the digital world. Through hands-on learning and guided support, students gain the skills and confidence needed to use digital resources and technology more independently and comfortably.
This course is for participants aged 50+, making it an accessible opportunity to strengthen digital knowledge, stay connected, and feel more confident in today’s digital world. Every lesson is hands-on, practical and paced for learners who are new to technology or just looking to build more confidence.
No prior experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to learn.
NOTE: Students must bring an electronic device (such as mobile phone, laptop, iPad, tablet, etc) as well as a suitable charger for your device.

Session 1: Getting Connected & Using Digital Devices
- Using digital devices (desktop, smartphone, iPad, tablet)
- Getting started online (essential digital skills)
- Email, communications & connecting to others
Session 2: Staying Safe & Finding Reliable Information
- Online safety & scam awareness
- Digital media literacy (finding reliable information online)
- Other online skills (searching, downloading, browsers, passwords)
Session 3: Everyday Digital Life
- Introduction to myGov & government services
- Digital payments, banking & online shopping
- Managing health and wellbeing online
Session 4: Community, AI & Future Skills
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills
- Engagement events and community participation
- Digital content and sharing (reinforcing media literacy and staying connected)

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
