Getting to the shops isn't always easy. Family don't ring as often as they used to. And the world keeps telling you to "just do it on the app" without ever showing you how. Well, this course does. Over five relaxed sessions, you'll learn to use the everyday apps that help you stay connected and stay independent. You'll see what your family is posting, get your groceries delivered, order a hot meal on a tired day, and keep your photos safe forever; all from the phone or tablet already in your pocket.

Most importantly, you'll learn to do it all safely. Every session builds in how to spot a scam and protect your money, so you can use these apps with confidence instead of worry. Every class is hands-on and done on your own device, at a gentle pace, with plenty of help on hand.

No experience needed. Just bring your phone or tablet, and we'll do the rest together.

COURSE OUTLINE

Week 1: Seeing What Your Family Shares

  • Students will learn how to find and follow the people they love on Facebook and Instagram, seeing the photos, news and everyday moments their children and grandchildren now share online instead of by phone or post. They will also learn to spot fake friend requests and keep their account safe.

Week 2: Your Photos and Files, Safe and Always With You

  • Students will discover how to keep their precious photos and important documents safe in one place, protected if a phone is lost or broken, and reachable from any device. They will also see how this lets them carry holiday photos and travel documents with them wherever they go.

Week 3: Your Grocery Shop, Done From the Couch

  • Students will learn to do their weekly Coles, Woolworths, Costco shop from home, browsing the aisles, building a list, finding the specials, and booking a delivery to the door. A real help on the days getting to the shops is hard.

Week 4: Home Delivery Apps

  • Students will discover how to order ready-made meals and takeaway straight to their home using Lite n' Easy and food delivery apps, handy for the days they don't feel like cooking and a way to stay independent and well-fed without leaving the house. This also includes delivery from Aldi, Costco as you can order their products on delivery apps.

Week 5: Paying Safely and Putting It All Together

  • Students will build the confidence to pay for things online without fear, understanding how their card details stay safe, how to spot a scam before it catches them, and how to shop and order knowing what is real and what isn't. We recap the whole course and practise together.
