Jun Wu

Jun Wu (MEc, BEng) graduated from one of the top universities in Beijing with majors in Management Information Systems and Economics. Since then, he ran his own consulting and market research company in Beijing serving clients globally for over a decade and after emigrating to Australia in 2000, he has also worked as a successful share broker, investment banker and is currently running his own property agency with a focus on local vendors and Chinese background buyers. His teaching experience includes face to face seminars in share trading and property investment, with his teaching style focusing on clear communication and open collaboration. His experiences help inform his wide understanding of both Mandarin and English which allows him to teach Mandarin through its real-life application in daily life and business.

Marivic Wyndham

Resume

A Cuban-American-Australian, Marivic Wyndham did her studies at the Australian National University in Canberra, including her PhD (1996) on Australian history and culture. She worked for eighteen years at the University of Technology Sydney, where she coordinated and taught in the Spanish Language and Culture Program, School of International Studies and Education of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.  She has published widely in the field of place studies, focusing on the politics of memorialisation in Chile and custodianship of place in Cuba.  Her co-authored book, Narrow but Endlessly Deep: the struggle for memorialisation in Chile since the transition to democracy (2016) was later published in Spanish, Sin Descansar en mi Memoria:  la lucha por la creación de sitios de memoria en Chile desde la transición a la democracia (2017).

Alice Xu

Alice Xu has a BFA and MFA from the National Art School and has been practicing and teaching art for many years, specialising in oil painting figurative and landscape works about the everyday. She is an experienced artist garnering numerous awards and works displayed and collected at respected galleries and collections such as the Art Galley of NSW, National Art School and University of Sydney. Alice's style of teaching caters to the personal growth and individual needs of each student, sharing great technical skills and knowledge in various aspects of drawing and painting.

Raymond Younis

Resume

Ray Younis was educated at the University of Sydney (BA Hons. MA Hons.) and the University of Oxford (DPhil). He has over 30 years of teaching experience at Oxford, the University of Sydney and UNSW, among others, and is the recipient of several commendations and awards, including a certificate from WEA in recognition of 13 years of excellence in teaching. He has published many essays in books and journals. His most recent book, just published, is Promoting Flourishing: Authentic Relationships and Growth in Learners in the Digital Age;  he is currently completing a book on digital media, ethics and the question of social justice. He also has over 30 years of experience as a wine consultant and educator in Oxford and Sydney.

Derek Zilich

Derek brings together 30+ years of music industry and live performance experience with a professional background in adult education.

Having worked and performed in New Zealand, Australia and London, he is a seasoned musician, solo performer and guitarist with a lifelong passion for rock, folk and popular music history.

He is also an experienced Adult Trainer and Course Facilitator, with a background in corporate education with a City & Guilds 9262 Adult Trainer qualification.

This combination of music, performance and adult education provides the foundation for Derek’s engaging entertainment-led approach to popular music history.
