Joan Lawrence has been guiding WEA students on history walks of Sydney and its suburbs since 1986. She has also delivered in-class courses at WEA. Having a working background in the NSW Department of Attorney General and Justice and in the Agent General’s of NSW office in London, Joan has a long background in the history field, in the local historical society field, and the National Trust of Australia (NSW).

She is also the author of some 15 books of historic walks of the Sydney region and pictorial histories of numerous Sydney suburbs. The Third Edition of her Good Walks Guide was issued in 2004, and in 2005 she updated new editions of both her earlier Pittwater Paradise and A Pictorial History of Randwick.
