This course is a part of introduction to Russian for any student wishing to learn the language for pleasure, business, travel or everyday use. The course aims to build basic comprehension and communication skills in conversation, reading, listening and writing. The communicative “natural” teaching approach of this course will allow students to begin communicating in Russian from the very start. This course also serves as an introduction to Russian society and Russian-speaking cultures. Studying the first introduction course or initial acquaintance of the language is preferred.

  • Getting around town; places to visit in a city
  • World geography; people and languages
  • Traveling by train, airplane and car
  • Russian holidays; Seasons and weather
  • More verbs of motion
  • Verbs on thinking and knowing
  • Genitive plural for feminine and neuter nouns
  • Prepositional plural forms for nouns and their modifiers
  • Instrumental plural for nouns and their modifiers
  • Comparative forms for adjectives and adverbs

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Ask and give directions on going by foot, taking public transport and driving
  2. Ask and answer questions travelling between Russian cities
  3. Understand necessary information on traveling: buying train/plane tickets, booking a hotel, renting a car, or explore the Russian subway
  4. Express holiday greetings, talk about the weather or a vacation
