...American Presidents are elected every four years and with them are elected the members of the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senators. In 2024 Donald Trump won the Presidency and his Republican Party control of both the House and the Senate. In November 2026 the members of the House and a further one-third of the Senate are up for re-election. Several outcomes are possible. The Republican could retain control of both houses, giving Trump absolutely unfettered power for the remainder of his term. The Democrats could win the House allowing them to cripple Trump’s financial policies or they could win both houses in which case they would also be able to veto his key future appointments. The stakes are high and outcomes could lead to either chaos or paralysis. Leading up to the election, both sides are attempting to corrupt the electoral process by gerrymandering electoral districts and/or by restricting certain communities’ voting rights. We will examine these potential outcomes and see if, out of this maelstrom a potential 2028 Presidential candidate emerges for the Democrats.
