Enjoy diving into interesting Aussie poetry dealing with all things Aussie – people, places, animals, weather and our sense of humour. And learn about poetry along the way. We’ll explore the poetry of such greats as Wright, Dawe, Harwood and Slessor along with lesser known poets. This is a fun, short course for people wanting to learn why poetry matters and those who already poetry lovers.

DELIVERY MODE

COURSE OUTLINE

Each week 1 or more Australian poems will be introduced. Each poem will be unpacked for its:

  • Content, context and techniques
  • Themes, tone and audience.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand how poetic techniques are used effectively by the poet to affect an audience
  2. Perceive the rich diversity of subject and style within Australia’s poetic canon
  3. Unpack poetry through understanding how to analyse from a three reading approach
  4. Understand the importance of context, tone and delivery in bringing a poem to life
