This continuation course from Latin Beginners 2 is for any student wishing to learn the language for the purposes of reading and understanding the literature of an ancient culture with at least approximately 40 hours of prior knowledge needed. In addition, students may be interested in the linguistic elements of Latin that have formed the basis of many modern European languages. The language has also an historical interest for those exploring the development of modern institutions, including political, religious, social and philosophical thought.

  • The Punic wars
  • The imperfect and perfect tenses (not in the textbook)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand and appreciate all aspects of Latin Grammar.
  2. Read and understand Latin at a elementary level.
  3. Prepare for skills to understand moods and syntax.
  4. Demonstrate a substantial knowledge of vocabulary and how it has influenced the English language.
  5. Appreciate some of the historical context of the Latin language.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
