Continue developing your beginner German fluency and confidence with our Beginner German: A1.3 Course, suitable for learners who have completed our Beginner German: A1.2 Course or have approximately 40 hours of prior study. This course helps you strengthen your ability to communicate in everyday situations while expanding your understanding of German grammar and vocabulary. It is ideal for learners interested in learning German for cultural interest or personal enrichment in a supportive and interactive learning environment.

You will practise everyday communication such as shopping in the city, asking for and giving directions, discussing work or study routines, describing weekend activities, and talking about homes and living situations. Grammar and vocabulary are taught in context to help you describe past events, compare things, and talk about everyday experiences with greater confidence. Phonetics is integrated throughout the course, with practice focusing on key German sounds and pronunciation patterns to help you develop clearer and more natural spoken German.

  • Describing purchases and comparing past and present
  • Discussing homes, living situations, and city vs. countryside life

Grammar

  • Prepositions with accusative (e.g., durch, für, gegen, ohne, um)
  • Prepositions with dative (e.g., aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu)
  • Distinguishing accusative vs. dative with prepositions
  • Present perfect (Perfekt) with regular and irregular past participles
  • Adjectival endings
  • Dative case (Dativ)
  • Comparative and superlative forms of adjectives

Phonetics

  • Pronunciation of CH / CHS
  • The German L and D sound

Vocabulary

  • City life and transport
  • Work, studies, and daily routines
  • Activities and common expressions used to talk about weekend plans and past activities
  • Purchases of objects and shopping vocabulary
  • Homes, accommodation, and comparisons

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
