Start your French learning journey with our Beginner French: A1.1 Course, suitable for complete beginners or learners with very little prior knowledge of French. This course introduces you to essential communication skills for everyday interactions, including greeting people, introducing yourself and others, exchanging personal information, spelling names, talking about countries and nationalities, and using French in the classroom.

You will build a solid foundation in French by developing practical vocabulary related to greetings, professions, countries, numbers, dates and everyday expressions while learning core grammar such as subject pronouns, the verbs être and s'appeler, question words and basic sentence patterns. Pronunciation is introduced from the beginning to help you recognise key French sounds and develop clear, confident speaking skills. It is ideal for learners interested in learning French for cultural interest or personal enrichment in a supportive and interactive learning environment.

COURSE OUTLINE

Communication

• Discovering the French language, introducing yourself, spelling your first and last name
• Learning names of countries, counting, and classroom communication
• Greeting someone, bidding farewell, introducing someone, indicating occupation
• Asking and giving information; giving personal information

Grammar

• Present tense verbs: s’appeler, être
• Personal subject pronouns: je, tu, il, elle, nous, vous, ils, elles
• Subject pronouns tu and vous
• Diacritic accents: acute, grave, circonflexe
• Gender of the names of countries; indefinite articles: un, une, des
• Interrogative words: qui, quoi, où, quand

Phonetics

• Alphabet pronunciation
• Sound: /y/ (tu)
• Stress: final syllable
• Intonation: rising and falling
• Mute letters; liaison: ils, elles

Vocabulary

• Expressions for introducing oneself or someone else; greetings; expressions of politeness
• First names; nationalities; names of countries
• Numbers, days, months, and seasons
• Professions

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
