Continue developing your intermediate French fluency and confidence with our Intermediate French: B1.4 Course, suitable for learners who have completed our Intermediate French: B1.3 Course or have approximately 300 hours of prior study. This course helps you expand your ability to communicate more confidently in French while strengthening your understanding of key grammar and vocabulary needed for everyday conversation. It is ideal for learners interested in learning French for cultural interest or personal enrichment in a supportive and interactive learning environment.

You will practise communication in situations such as discussing current affairs, understanding news articles, reacting to information, making suggestions, expressing wishes and hopes, and talking about literature. Grammar is introduced naturally in context, including the passive voice, nominalisation, the conditional and subjunctive moods, and advanced structures for expressing ideas. Vocabulary and pronunciation are integrated throughout, covering media, social issues, and literature, along with key sound distinctions and linking in spoken French.

• Online: via Zoom or Microsoft Teams

• Speaking about contemporary literature

Grammar

• Structures: passive voice (highlighting an element); nominalisation (emphasising information)
• Verb forms: gerund (providing details)
• Moods: conditional (making suggestions); subjunctive (expressing wishes and hope)
• Pronouns: uses of on

Phonetics

• Sounds: /ø/, /œ/ (vowel contrast)
• Consonant and vowel linking (liaison and enchaînement)
• Pronunciation: verbs in the subjunctive

Vocabulary

• Terms and vocabulary related to current affairs and the news
• Structures for reacting and encouraging a reaction
• Words related to behaviour and attitude (e.g. dependence on mobile phones)
• Words related to the protection of nature
• Vocabulary related to contemporary literature; talking about a book you like
