Build confidence and fluency in spoken intermediate French through intensive practice and guided debates on contemporary French life and culture. Each session introduces key vocabulary and argumentative language, followed by structured conversations and debates around a theme with targeted grammar support helping learners express increasingly complex ideas in French. Suitable for intermediate (B1) learners with at least 400 hours of recent prior French learning required.

COURSE OUTLINE

Themes are explored through interactive conversation and debate activities, including:

  • Everyday life in France
  • Social and cultural practices
  • Contemporary issues in French society
  • Perspectives relevant to travellers and residents
  • Cross-cultural comparisons

For each theme, students will develop:

  • Thematic vocabulary
  • Debate and opinion language (expressing, justifying, counter-arguing)
  • Relevant intermediate grammar (review and extension)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate more easily and confidently in spoken intermediate French to master the art of arguing.
  2. Demonstrate an increased understanding of contemporary modern French culture and society.
  3. Use a broader range of thematic vocabulary and apply key intermediate grammar more accurately in spoken interaction.
