This course helps you strengthen your communication skills for everyday situations while deepening your understanding of Finnish grammar and vocabulary, making it ideal for learners wanting to learn the Finnish language for travel, work, or personal enrichment in a supportive, interactive learning environment.

You will learn to describe your home and living environment, talk about your daily commute or holiday travel, and discuss everyday routines. Grammar and vocabulary are taught in context, covering the have-structure in the present and simple past, type 4 verbs, and common word types including -i, -e, and -nen nouns. Phonetics is integrated throughout, with practice consolidating long and short sounds to develop clear and confident speech in Finnish.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  1. Communicate effectively about your home, living environment, and travel, including describing where you live, talking about your home and rooms, discussing how you commute or travel for holidays, and sharing everyday routines.
  2. Use key grammatical structures accurately, including the _have_-structure in the present and simple past, type 4 verbs, and an introduction to common word types (-i, -e, and -nen nouns), enabling you to describe people, places, and actions clearly.
  3. Improve pronunciation and expand thematic vocabulary, focusing on consolidating long and short sounds, and learning vocabulary related to homes, furniture, types of accommodation, and different modes of transport.
