Continue developing your beginner Finnish fluency and confidence with our Beginner Finnish: A1.3 Course, suitable for learners who have completed our Beginner Finnish: A1.2 Course or have approximately 40 hours of prior study. This course helps you expand your ability to communicate in everyday situations while strengthening your understanding of Finnish grammar and vocabulary. It is ideal for learners who want to use Finnish for travel, work, or personal enrichment in a supportive and interactive learning environment.

You will practise everyday conversations such as talking about your home, describing where you live, and explaining how you travel to work or for holidays. Grammar and vocabulary are taught in context to help you describe locations, talk about routines, and discuss different types of homes and transport. Phonetics is integrated throughout the course, with practice focusing on long and short sounds to help you develop clearer and more confident spoken Finnish.

Communication

  • Telling about your home
  • Describing where you live
  • Telling about how you travel to work/holidays

Grammar

  • Have-structure in present and simple past
  • Type 4 verbs
  • Introduction to the most common word types (i-sanat, e-sanat ja nen-sanat)

Phonetics

  • Consolidating long and short sounds

Vocabulary

  • Home: rooms, furniture, different types of homes
  • Transport: different means of transport

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Talk about their home, living situation, and travel routines in everyday Finnish conversations.
  2. Describe locations, routes, and personal experiences using simple sentences and the present and past tense.
  3. Communicate more clearly in spoken Finnish by applying key grammatical patterns and pronunciation rules in familiar contexts.
