Since the visit of the Great White Fleet to Australia in 1908, Australia and the USA have been allies. But it was not until the Second World War that the relationship became very close. Since then, Australia and the United States have seemed to move in lock-step on international and defence issues. This has culminated in the current agreement for the United States to share its nuclear submarine technology with Australia. This is considered by some Australians to be dangerous, while others think it is good strategic policy. This course explores the evolution of Australia’s relationship with the United States.
