Continue your Dutch learning journey with approximately 20 hours of prior study from A1.1. You will expand your ability to communicate in everyday situations, including talking about days and months, ordering food and drinks, shopping, discussing clothing, and asking for information.

You will build on your A1.1 foundation by developing your vocabulary, sentence building and use of the past tense, while continuing to work on Dutch pronunciation, rhythm and stress in longer sentences.

DELIVERY MODE

• Face-to-Face: WEA Sydney
• Online: via Zoom or Microsoft Teams

COURSE OUTLINE

Communication

• Talking about the days of the week and months
• Ordering food and drinks in restaurants
• Buying in a supermarket and other shops
• Talking about what you are wearing
• Asking simple questions and obtaining information
• Using numbers and quantity expressions in everyday transactions

Grammar

• Pluralisation
• Past tense of key verbs
• Word order in the past tense
• Comparatives and superlatives
• Advanced sentence building
• Making it smaller ("je"-words)

Phonetics

• Vowels and consonants from A1.1 continued in new words and phrases
• Sentence rhythm and stress in longer sentences

Vocabulary

• Days of the week and months of the year
• Food and shopping
• Ordering and paying
• Colours and clothing
• Numbers and quantity expressions
• Family members and possessive expressions

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Communicate in simple everyday situations involving food, shopping, clothing and dates;
2. Ask for and obtain basic information and use numbers and quantities in everyday transactions; and
3. Use key past-tense forms, comparisons and expanded sentence structures in familiar contexts.
