La Perouse is one of Australia’s most significant sites of first contact and cross-cultural encounter. This course explores the layered histories of the La Perouse peninsula on Botany Bay, from early European arrival to ongoing Indigenous presence and connection. Through place, story and historical context, participants consider how encounters were shaped by power, misunderstanding and resilience, and why La Perouse remains a site of deep cultural significance today.
