Your Android smartphone can do much more than make calls and send messages. In this practical workshop designed for seniors, you'll learn how to use emergency information features, medication reminders, health tracking, accessibility settings and useful Android tools that make everyday life easier. Participants will also explore myGov, Medicare integration, Google Gemini, Action Blocks and routines, along with practical ways to organise important health information and simplify everyday tasks. Please bring your fully charged Android phone and your Google account password so you can participate in the hands-on activities.

COURSE OUTLINE
- Setup & Android Efficiency (Everyday Handy Features): Verifying software updates (Android 16+), adjusting Font and Display settings for low-vision comfort, and organizing the Quick Settings swipe-down menu.
- Module 1: Emergency & Crisis Safety: Configuring Android Emergency Info for lock-screen access, adding vital data (allergies, medications), and navigating Android's Emergency SOS protocols.
- Module 2: Real-World Sight & Scanning Tools: Using the device camera/magnifier to read tiny font on medication packaging, and utilizing Secure Folders to safely store digital scans of paper scripts.
- Module 3: Custom Android Action Blocks & Routines: A beginner-friendly look at automation. Setting up personalized, single-tap Home Screen buttons to shortcut everyday multi-step tasks (like opening calculators for tip splitting or instant speed dials).
- Module 4: Managing Meds, Vitals & Gemini Voice Mastery: Linking myGov to the 1800MEDICARE app, downloading e-scripts, visualizing blood pressure trends, and hands-on practice using Google Gemini for hands-free health logs.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Configure a life-saving Emergency Information profile on Android accessible from a locked screen.
- Design custom Home Screen Action Blocks and shortcuts for instant, one-tap access to calculators, contacts, or health apps.
- Use native Android accessibility tools like the system magnifier and display scaling for easy reading.
- Access electronic prescriptions via official Australian health apps and safely track monthly health trends.
