This course is for students who have completed at least 100 hours of Beginners Swedish and will consolidate topics/grammar from Chapter 1-15 of the Rivstart A1+A2 textbook. This course is also designed for people working in the local tourist industry who wish to improve their customer service to Swedish tourists. Students will further develop basic skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing whilst also learning about Swedish culture. This course is recommended for people working in the general travel sector who need to communicate at a low level with Swedish clients.

COURSE OUTLINE

Consolidating grammar:

  • Verb tenses – present tense, simple past, present perfect
  • Adjectives, adverbials and noun groups
  • Pronouns – subject pronouns, object pronouns, possessive pronouns, demonstrative pronouns
  • Word order – main clauses and subordinate clauses

Consolidating vocabulary:

  • Numbers, dates and telling time
  • Hobbies and past experiences
  • Shopping, clothes and colours
  • Family and family members
  • Food, ordering food at a restaurant
  • Weather and climate

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Have an understanding of basic Swedish grammar structures (verbs, nouns, adjectives) and be able to use them in conversation and writing.
  2. Discuss everyday situations with an expanded vocabulary and increased confidence.
  3. Effectively communicate in common contexts, such as ordering food, discussing family, hobbies, and weather, using appropriate vocabulary and sentence structure.
  4. Demonstrate the skills and language necessary for continued learning of Swedish.
