This course traces the development of Chinese landscape painting from the late 19th century into the modern era, with a focus on changes after 1949. You’ll see how artists worked between continuity and innovation, retaining key traditions while adapting to new artistic and political conditions.

- Introduction of Xie Yi style painting, 4 treasures of studio, genuine posture of brush control
- Major skills in ink control and interplay with water, Six Canons of Chinese Aesthetic
- Yin Yang opposite theory, light and dark contrast, aerial perspective
- Mountain scape, cloud and mist, rainy weather depiction
- Inscription and stone seal usage on a finished painting
- Depiction of water: waterfall, lake, stream and river, sea waves
- Details of building, bridges, vehicles, boats and people
