The region known as the Heart of Texas, sits at the geographical centre of the state. The region’s two largest cities are Dallas and Austin, the capital of Texas. The region has a lot to offer the traveller. Its complex, and contested, history dates back to a native Americans civilisation called the Tejas and includes rule by Spain, France, Mexico and finally the United States. German, Eastern European, Cajun and Mexican culinary influences mix with the world-famous, home-grown Texas Barbeque. But perhaps most surprising is the regions striking natural beauty, highlighted in a network of National and State Parks.
