This is an introduction to the Finnish language. Finnish is a Finno-Ugric language with an interesting grammar system and source of vocabulary. No prior knowledge is required. In addition to the basic Finnish language, this course will also present some features of Finland and Finnish traditions.

COURSE OUTLINE
- Introduction to Finnish pronunciation (diphthongs, single and double vowels and consonants) and to Finnish grammar system
- Greetings, introducing yourself and your family members, numbers
- Nationalities, countries, place of birth with corresponding grammar declensions (verbs and nouns)
- Weekdays, months, time of the day
- Typical Finnish food (vocabulary and how to order a meal)
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Make a difference between single and double sounds, and learn correct pronunciation of basic Finnish
- Introduce themself (name, country and place of origin, phone number, family members)
- Gain basic knowledge about Finland and some traditions (related to important dates in the history and seasons)
- Have a basic understanding of the Finnish grammar system
