...When Julius Caesar defeated the Gauls at Alesia in 52BC, Celtic culture in Europe was doomed to be dominated by Roman culture and law. The great tribal Celtic realms of western and central Europe were gone. But Celtic culture remained in parts of western France, in northern Spain and in the British Isles and Ireland. From these cultures that endure until today we have been able to learn what they did and what they achieved. This course looks at the history of the Celts from ancient times until the present.
