The Horse is ever active and always on the move, fond of sports and exercises. During Lunar New year, people like to paint Horse so as to rebuild confident in business and boost up their morale in daily life. In addition of learning the water Ink painting skill, this course also encourages deeper culture and art exchange between West and East. This is a course for all beginners, although a bit of drawing foundational skill will be advantageous. No need to bring any painting instruments for the first lesson as advice of where to purchase art materials will be given during class.

  • Brush control and basic calligraphic skills
  • Ink control and interplay with water and brush
  • Yin Yang Opposite rule and 6 Canons of Chinese aesthetic principals
  • Anatomy structure of a horse
  • Drafting with outline from Head to Tail of the horse
  • Ink wash and different ink darkness to depict contour and volume
  • Details on face feature and four limbs in action
  • Inscription and stone seal to finish a piece of painting

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Know the four treasures of Chinese studio(Chinese instruments usage)
  2. Discover the six major aesthetic principals in Chinese Painting
  3. Paint in a traditional Xie-yi style using minimal Chinese ink and brush on Xuan paper
  4. Explore the symbolic meaning of Horse in Classical Chinese Culture
