Peru has been blessed with cultural and natural gifts: home to the earliest civilisation in South America, famous for epic landmarks like Machu Picchu, and for its variety of landscapes - from mountains and beaches to deserts and rainforests. But there is much more to discover and confirm that the country has something unique to offer to all its visitors. Visit Lima and learn about ceviche and Pisco sour, discover Arequipa and learn why potatoes are so important to Peruvian culture, meet alpacas, llamas and traditional weavers at the Sacred Valley of Cusco, these and much more are some activities to not miss while visiting the country.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Brief Introduction of Peru: Including main facts, culture and lifestyle.
  • Cities of Peru: Discuss the most visited cities in the country- Lima, Cusco, Arequipa- and discuss about highlights, local gastronomy and surroundings.
  • Intangible cultural heritage: Learn about some intangible cultural heritages of the country; including the ceviche preparation, Wititi Dance in Colca Valley, and the textile art of Taquile.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Have a general knowledge of Peru and understand why it is considered one of the most visited countries of the continent.
  2. Identify the most recommended sights, excursions and cultural activities in some of the Peruvian cities.
  3. Name some intangible and tangible cultural heritages of the country.
