John Misto, BA LL.B, has been a prominent Australian playwright and scriptwriter for over 30 years. Six of John’s plays have had successful seasons at Sydney’s Ensemble Theatre. His most acclaimed play, “The Shoe-Horn Sonata” is about the Australian Army Nurses captured by the Japanese in WW2. “Shoe-Horn” has been studied in Australian schools for over 20 years. John’s most recent play, the comedy “Madame Rubinstein” (performed in Australia as “Lip Service”) had a sell-out season In London and has been staged throughout Eastern Europe. “Madame Rubinstein” is currently enjoying a very successful season in Moscow. John is also a highly respected scriptwriter. His mini-series “The Day of the Roses”, about the Granville Train Disaster, received enormous critical acclaim, was a television ratings -triumph, and had the support of the survivors and the victims’ families. John has won many writing awards including two Premier’s Literary Awards, three AFI Awards, a Logie Award, and three Australian Writers’ Guild Awards. John’s talks are sometimes humorous, usually fascinating and always entertaining. John’s career peaked when he was denounced by the Victorian Parliament for portraying Australian politicians in an unflattering manner.
