This is a continuation course for students who have completed the WEA Portuguese Advanced courses, level B1, or for those with intermediate language skills who wish to improve their knowledge of the Portuguese grammar, their oral, listening, communication and writing skills to an advanced level. This course will focus on the revision of the Advanced level courses.

  • Portugues XXI (Nova Edicao) 3 Textbook (B1), Lidel (2018).

CLASS PLAN

Nine Sessions that aim to build high level comprehension and communication skills in Portuguese. Classes will consist of a minimum of 1.5 hours virtual class time, together with 30 minutes worth of work to be completed independently. You will be able to contact your tutor by email or phone to ask for guidance and feedback on this work. In addition tutors may set additional homework.

CONTENT

Conversational Portuguese and a review of cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of higher level language principles.basic language principles.

  • Unidades 9 -12
  • Some cultural and linguistic differences between Portugal, Angola, Brasil and Timor-Leste
  • The ageing of the population in Portugal and the world
  • The media
  • The European Union *The subjunctive - revision
  • Direct and indirect speech
  • Allophones and homophones
  • Phonetics, orthography, accentuation in variations of Portuguese

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Use Portuguese level B1 effectively, in various business and social contexts.
  2. Demonstrate the skills, language and attitudes required to commence Portuguese Level B2.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
