The course is a continuing course for learners who have completed Japanese Beginners 3 course or have equivalent knowledge and skills of the language and who wish to learn the language for business, travel and/or everyday use. This course provides an enjoyable learning experience through cultural contexts and students will develop basic skills of conversation, reading, listening and writing in Japanese.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Souvenirs and Counting Numbers/Numeral Classifiers (-mai, -hon/pon/bon, -ko, -satsu. –nin)
  • Tell what you want and Giving/receiving verbs (N ga hoshii desu, Person ni N o agemasu/moraimasu)
  • Numbers and currency: 100, 1000, 10000, -en, -doru
  • Describing items and Shopping phrases (Demonstratives; Colours; N wa ikura desu ka; N o kudasai)
  • Holiday activities: Verbs in Past tense (V-mashita; V-masendeshita)
  • Adjectives in Past tense (I-adj-katta desu; I-adj-kunakatta desu; Na-adj-deshita; Na-adj-ja nakatta desu)
  • Experiences in Japan and Trips: Verbs in Tai/Desire form (V-tai desu; V-takunai desu)
  • Conjunctive Particles (sorekara, demo, soshite)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
  2. Introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has.
  3. Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
