This course is a continuation from French Intermediate 1 and is for any student wishing to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use with approximately 360 hours of French required. Students will develop skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing. This course aims to build general comprehension and communication skills in intermediate French and a review of cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of higher level language principles.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Settling in a French speaking country
  • Understand and write an administrative letter                                                                                                      
  • Express feelings – Use of the subjunctive form                                                                                                               
  • Health issues, describe symptoms - Inquire about health insurance                                                                
  • Asking for help - Express a consequence                                                                                                                      
  • Give instructions – Use of the Imperative and personal pronouns                                                                           
  • Report a conversation – Use of the indirect speech                                                                                                
  • Nasal vowels

An emphasis will be placed on conversation. Regular homework will be assigned so that the students can review, practise and maintain contact with the language during the week.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
  2. Deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
  3. Produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
  4. Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
