This is a workshop for singers who are interested in joining a choir and/or an a cappella group, having a desire to enrol in a singing course or presently in a choir and wanting tips to improve. Over the course of the day, singers will be treated to various vocal exercises to hone their technique, experience tuning their voice with others to create harmonies, rhythm games and learning songs in harmony, with confidence and precision.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Bringing awareness to the student's voice type i.e. SATB
  • Following musical cues
  • Following the conductor with accuracy
  • Posture for singing
  • How to sing a cappella
  • Movement whilst singing
  • Breath management for tonal quality and sustaining notes
  • Legato singing
  • Syncopation
  • Rhythm and memory exercises
  • Teaching close harmonies with precision

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Keep to their own singing part in harmony pieces, without distraction.
  2. Have posture awareness for productive breathing required in singing.
  3. Learn how to follow the conductor and vocal instructions with accuracy.
  4. Gain confidence and understanding of what's required in an a cappella ensemble, including memory.
