This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify and support the learning needs of young vocational learners by developing and facilitating collaborative learning environments. The unit applies to vocational education and training (VET) teachers and trainers who facilitate learning for young vocational learners based on products that are nationally recognised or aligned with other recognised frameworks. Work may be undertaken under the supervision of qualified and more experienced VET teachers and trainers. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. All assignments are completed online making it easy and portable to keep track of where you are up to.
- Students will be paying this course in two payments, one with an initial fee of $200 on enrolment, with a marking fee of $75 to be paid when the assessor has finished marking your unit.
- This unit must be completed within 3 months. Extensions (1 month - $50, 3 month - $150, 6 month - $350) can be purchased through the office upon request.
- All students have 90 days to submit the required documentation on enrolment or WEA Sydney reserves the right to cancel their enrolment.
- Access to our online learning platform will be issued once we have received and verified all your supporting documentation and USI number.
Those entering this program must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience. Effective language, literacy and numeracy skills to plan, research and write a range of documentation and present information as well as access to a computer and internet is also required. Plan learning for young vocational learners
- Identify learning needs and goals according to any regulatory requirements, and discuss with required colleagues
- Identify learner characteristics and abilities, and context for learning
- Select activities, techniques and processes to facilitate learning and explain and discuss with learners
- Develop and document learning plans to reflect learning theories and principles and to suit learning needs
- Seek feedback and assistance from colleagues according to specific learning needs
- Prepare for each session according to learning plan requirements
- Obtain support from qualified or experienced colleagues to implement learning plans according to context for learning
Address learning needs of young vocational learners
- Clarify with learners and reach agreement on the boundaries and expectations of the learning relationship according to legislative requirements
- Develop a safe and inclusive learning relationship and sustain active learner participation using effective communication and interpersonal techniques
- Explain, discuss and facilitatestructured learning activities as planned, and behaviour management strategies and delivery modes to support and reinforce new learning, build on learner strengths and identify areas for further development
- Use motivational techniques to support learners to take responsibility for their own learning, meeting ethical requirements and monitoring learner interaction
- Observe learner cues and change approach as required to maintain momentum and engagement
- Acknowledge and support individual differences and learners with additional learning needs
- Monitor effectiveness of learning outcomes
Evaluate learning of young vocational learners
- Seek feedback from learners on outcomes and value of learning achieved and learners’ perception of value of the learning process
- Evaluate effectiveness of learning activities in addressing learning needs and goals
- Evaluate effectiveness of own performance in managing learner engagement and learning relationships, and identify opportunities for improvements
- Document evaluation outcomes as required by organisational requirements and relevant stakeholders
