Ian Michie, PhD (Ancient History), MA (Orthodox Christian Theology), MA (International Relations), has been a university tutor of Byzantine history, a high school teacher of history and world religions, a peripatetic teacher of violin and guitar, and has taught at WEA since 2018. Ian is a keen student of European philosophy, Christian theology, and international politics (especially in relation to Russia and the former Eastern Bloc). He is a friendly and welcoming teacher who helps students to engage comfortably and productively with challenging topics. Ian is meticulous in his course preparation and uses an array of different source materials so as to extend the breadth and depth of each student’s knowledge. He is firmly committed to the ideal of life-long learning and seeks to be a model of this ideal for all of his students.
