Writers' Monthly Meet-Ups

In order to write their best work, most writers need a regular deadline and constructive feedback. To facilitate this process, the Writers' Monthly Meet-ups will provide a series of three monthly meetings. The meet-ups are open to amateur and professional writers of all forms of writing – poetry, plays, scripts, memoir, short or long fiction or non-fiction. Writers will also receive additional coaching to help build-up writing belief and to develop writing skills.

  • First meet-up: Break down current writing project(s) into achievable goals for the remaining two meetings. An opportunity to read current work and receive constructive feedback. Identify any area of writing skills or writing belief which may need polishing.
  • Second meet-up: Based on the current month’s progress, tweak the writing goal for the next month. An opportunity to read new work and receive constructive feedback.
  • Third meet-up: An opportunity to read new work and receive constructive feedback. Create a plan-of-attack to finish future writing with or without the aid of future meet-ups.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Evaluate the best way to write their story and connect with their audience.
  2. Know the difference between ‘telling’ and ‘showing’.
  3. Develop a regular writing pattern and a network of fellow writers.
  4. Contact proofreaders/editors and publishers.
