Japan’s reliance on Korea for the transmission of technology from the continent is a fascinating story. This culminated in Toyotomi Hideyoshi invasion of Korea at the end of the 16th Century. When he was finally repelled by the Chinese army, his troops “stole” tens of thousands of artisans, many who established the famous ceramics towns we know as representing Japanese culture today. We look at how to visit these fascinating ceramics towns and reflect on this powerful history.
