The Spartan Mirage & Greek Ultra-Nationalism (1936-2020)

The fantasy of ancient Sparta has been appropriated by a number of ultra-right movements and politicians over the past century. They include Hitler's Nazis and as well as recent neo-Nazis. We examine this phenomenon in Greece in the 1930s, 1960s and over the past three decades culminating in Golden Dawn sending democratically elected Deputies to both the Greek and the European Parliaments.
