Troubled Pleasure - The Romantics

This course explores some of the great poets of the Romantic period (1790 – 1840). This was an extraordinary time in Literature. The poetic works of Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Byron, Keats and more established the cornerstones of how we understand ourselves and our worlds.

This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Review of the Language and Techniques of English Literature
  • Understand the poetry seminal to the Romantic period
  • Enhance appreciation of the context and influences of this period

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Discuss poetic form and feature.
  2. Describe the context of the Romantic period.
  3. Discuss the pre occupations of the Romantic poets.
