The Mystery plays were religious dramas performed in the open air. They were part of the heritage of the great Elizabethan dramatists. Their texts are preserved in manuscripts from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries but their origins are much older. Many of them are now once again performed at regular intervals. We will be looking at material from English and Cornish sources.
