Decisive Naval Battles: Leyte Gulf

In October 1944 US and Australian naval units moved to retake the Philippines resulting in the largest naval battle in history between the Japanese and US Navies. We look at the background leading up to the battle, the strategic situation in the Pacific at the time, the major players, the battle itself as it developed, and the outcome, impact and evaluation of the battle.
