Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116

This qualification reflects the roles of individuals delivering training and assessment services in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. The TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the minimum qualification required to work as a trainer/assessor in a structured training environment such as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or TAFE. It is also relevant for those wishing to deliver one-on-one mentoring to staff, coaching students or training of apprentices or trainees. Successful participants will also be qualified to conduct workplace assessments and skills audits.


Please ensure that you have read the WEA Sydney Student Handbook before enrolling. Please be advised that you will be paying this course in two payments, one with an initial fee of $1500 on enrolment, with the remainder to be paid 31 days after the class commences.

The course runs for two 5 week programs – broken in the middle by an interval where assignments will need to be completed. Mixed method of delivery including face-to-face and some resources may be delivered on-line. Classrooms are located near Town Hall station.

  • Those entering this program must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience.
  • Access to a computer and internet
  • Effective language, literacy and numeracy skills to plan, research and write a range of documentation and present information.

  • No, this is a competency-based course
  • You will need to show that you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received
  • You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all unit of learning

Please be advised that this course is approximately 1000 hours in total with the above face-to-face class sessions included. Students have 180 days maximum to complete the assignments. Commencement of online assignments start Wednesday 20 November 2019, face-to-face sessions start Saturday 1 February 2020.
