The One Who Became 007 - The Life and Letters of Ian Fleming

This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.

In many ways, James Bond 007 was a larger-than-life reincarnation of his creator Ian Fleming, who had a hard time at Eton because of his love for cigarettes, fast cars and young women; he was expelled from Sandhurst when he contracted a STD, served with British naval intelligence during the war, then went on to write 11 novels and two collections of stories about James Bond 007, as well as a successful children’s novel Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Tonight we outline the graphic story of his life, including excerpts from his correspondence to and from his readers, and other literary figures like Raymond Chandler and Noel Coward.
