Seeking Treasure in Secret Gardens: Nesbit, Burnett and Webster

The Golden Age of Children’s Literature featured many female writers who had a profound impact on the girl readers of the twentieth century, including Frances Hodgson Burnett (The Secret Garden), Edith Nesbit (The Treasure Seekers), and Jean Webster (Daddy Long Legs). It is perhaps not surprising that each of these women was strong, interesting, and engaged in the world. Explore the lives and works of these authors, not only their books but their other contributions, and the influence they left on literature in humour, ideals, and a specifically feminine view of heroism.
