This course is a continuation course from lower levels of Spanish Beginner study. It is also designed for people working in the local tourist industry who need to communicate effectively with Spanish clients. Students will have the opportunity to focus on specific skills, such as extending vocabulary in given areas, improving written language, and developing a better understanding of specific cultural and social issues relevant to the tourist industry.

CLASS PLAN
Nine Sessions that aim to build advanced comprehension and communication skills in Spanish.


CONTENT
Conversational Spanish and a review of cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of higher level language principles.


Topics (as related to textbook)

  • Talking about oneself, likes and dislikes, work etc.
  • Future plans and projects, going on an excursion.
  • Spanish traditional food, buying and ordering in a restaurant
  • Talking about one’s day
  • Excuses and apologies
  • Past travel experiences
  • Talking about their experiences as Spanish students
  • Shopping for clothes

Grammar (as covered in textbook topics)

  • Verb Gustar
  • Phrasal verb: Ir a+Infinitive
  • Vocabulary for food measurements
  • Indirect Object Personal pronouns: me,te, le, nos, os, les
  • Present Perfect
  • Verbs for every day actions: apagar, encender
  • Markers of time: esta semana, este mes
  • Verb Ilevar
  • Direct Objects Pronouns: lo, la, los, las
  • Adjectives for garment: ancho, estrecho


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate in easily understood basic Spanish, in particular to give assistance, direction and instructions to Spanish tourists.
  2. Increase the skills, vocabulary and study attitude required for continued study of Spanish.
  3. Demonstrate the skills, language and attitudes required for further study of Spanish.


LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
