The course is an introduction to Spanish for any student wishing to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use. It is also designed for people working in the local tourist industry who wish to improve their customer service to Spanish tourists. Students will develop basic skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing. This course is recommended for people working in the general travel sector who need to communicate at a basic level with Spanish clients.

CLASS PLAN
Nine Sessions that aim to build general basic comprehension and communication skills in elementary Spanish.


CONTENT
Conversational Spanish and an introduction to cultural practices, with a focus on clear explanation of basic language principles.


Greeting and introduction

  • Main Spanish sounds
  • Greetings and farewells. Use and respond to greetings
  • Introduce self and others in an appropriate manner (Formal/Informal)
  • Ask and respond to others about state of well- being
  • Ask about people identities
  • Use the Spanish alphabet for spelling name and surnames
  • Ask about someone' nationality
  • Numbers 1-20

Grammar

  • Present tense regular verbs ar-er-ir
  • verbs llamarse and apellidarse
  • Demonstrate pronouns
  • Gender of nouns

Personal information

  • Ask about languages
  • Ask about occupations, professions , phone number, e-mal, post code, address, ages etc

Interrogative

  • Que + verb
  • Cual + verb
  • Numbers 20 to 100
  • Ordinals numbers

Grammar

  • Definite and indefinite articles

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Speak clearly and be understood in basic Spanish, in particular to give direction and instructions to Spanish tourists.
  2. Demonstrate the skills, language and attitudes required for further study of Spanish.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY
If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
