COURSE OUTLINE

  • We will start our course sharing experiences and all our previous knowledge of different murals and graffiti artists in Latin America. We will discuss their style and background.

  • “La paredes hablan en la Ciudad de México”: the role and the message of the mural movement both in past and present México City

  • “La paredes hablan en Bogotá”: the presence of indigenous communities in urban areas.

  • “La paredes hablan en Río de Janeiro”: football meets reality in the context of the World Cup

     

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students be able to:

  1. Gain a better understanding of the intricate political and social reality of Latin American countries, more specifically Brazil, Colombia, and México.
  2. Understand the complex relationship between street art (both graffiti and murals) and the constructions of identity in the public sphere in Latin American countries.
